About NSS
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a flagship youth program initiated by the Government of India in 1969, aimed at promoting social service and community engagement among students in higher education. The primary goal of NSS is to develop a sense of social responsibility and an ethos of service among young people. Through various activities and outreach programs, students actively participate in initiatives such as environmental conservation, health awareness, education for underprivileged children, and disaster management. This hands-on experience not only benefits the community but also fosters personal growth and leadership skills among participants. NSS operates under a motto of "Not Me, But You," emphasizing selfless service to others. It is organized at the college and university levels, with volunteers typically dedicating time to community projects during their academic years.
Objective:
To promote a spirit of social service, volunteerism, and civic responsibility among students, fostering understanding and engagement with their communities.
Activities:
NSS organizes various activities, including regular weekly meetings, community service projects, and special camping programs (usually 7-day).
Structure: NSS is structured around two main aspects: Regular Activities and Special Camping Programs.
Motto: "NOT ME, BUT YOU"
Focus:
To bridge the gap between "Campus and Community," "College and Village" and "Knowledge and Action".
Benefits of Being a NSS Volunteer:
A NSS volunteer who takes part in the community service programme would a college level. Being an active member these student volunteers would have the exposure and experience to be the following:
